About this exam

Administered as two separately scored portions: NEC Knowledge (75 items, of which 70 are scored, 150 minutes) and Calculations (33 items, of which 30 are scored, 170 minutes). Each portion must be passed with at least 70%.
The Master exam carries a heavier calculation and load-calculation weighting than the Journeyman exam, and adds plan reading.
Open book, soft-bound NEC only. TDLR examinations reference the 2026 NEC as of 1 September 2026.
